[Taiwan] Day Trip to Jioufen 九份一日遊 Part 2

The bus drops you off right in front of the entrance into where all the good eats are.  But if you really want to make sure, follow the sign that points to Jishan Street (基山街).

Jishan Street is full of souvneir shops, nostalgic Taiwanese candy stores, and of course, lots of food vendors.

Red meat ball (紅糟肉圓) is one of the popular items here.  Meat ball is a very common Taiwanse street food, there are many ways to prepare it, I like them steamed, but the most common ones are deep fried, like the ones sold here at Jin Tse Red Meat Ball (金枝紅糟肉圓).  I'm not sure how to explain why the meat ball is red….  it's some kind of red colored spice, look a bit scary, but trust me, it has no weird taste.

After about 10-15 minute walk, you'll come across a steep cross street, the most famous street in Jioufen,  Shuchi Road (豎崎路).

Shuchi Road is a street with hundreds of steps that goes up and down the mountain, this is also where the movie "A City of Sadness" is made.

On this street you'll find what Jioufen is most well known for, TARO BALL!!!

Taro ball shave ice is everywhere in Jioufen, but only this one on Shuchi Road, A-Gan-Ye Taro Ball (阿柑姨芋圓) is what everyone's here for.

A-Gan-Ye Taro Ball is at the very top of Shuchi Road, you can't miss it, because there is this one big sign pointing you to the right direction.

(well, if you understand chinese that is….)

A-Gan-Ye makes their own taro balls in house.  So if you really like it, take a bag of fresh uncooked taro balls home!
