Thai Town 瓦城泰國料理

Whenever I go back to Taiwan I always make sure at least one of my meals is Thai food.
Why Thai food?
Just like here in the States we have "American Chinese food" (i.e. Panda Express, P.F. Chang), in Taiwan we also have "Taiwanese Thai food"!
(If you are one of those people that thought Taiwan is where Thai food comes from, this is a rare chance that you can use the words 'Taiwan' and 'Thai' in the same sentence without a Taiwanese rolling their eyes at you)
There are many Thai restaurants in Taipei, my family likes Thai Town, because there happens to be one nearby my parent's house (it has many locations), service is good, decor is nice,,and food is tasty (though not particularly cheap).
Here are the standard dishes I'd get whenever I go:
Moon Shrimp Cake (Original Shrimp Cake)
Literally translated as "Moon Shrimp Cake", it is best described as two fried tortilla with shrimp paste in between. Comes with a sweet chili sauce
This dish is like "Orange Chicken" in an American Chinese restaurant. Why? Because just like no Chinese outside of America recognizes "Orange Chicken" as a Chinese dish, so is no Thai outside of Taiwan know what Moon Shrimp Cake is. It is 100% Taiwanese invention!
Shrimp Vermicelli Bowl
This is my favorite dish in a Taiwanese Thai restaurant. I am pretty sure this is also a Taiwanese dish because I have never seen it in the States, and also because Glass Noodle with Shrimp is a pretty common Chinese dish. The "Thai" version is spicy with some "Thai-ish" spice.
Thai Green Papaya Salad
This dish is available in a lot of American Thai restaurants as well. This salad taste better if the papaya is sliced paper thin, and tossed right before serving. Somehow I felt like the few American versions I've had were all well pre-mixed before serving. I'm normally not a salad person, and Green Papaya Salad is one of the few I actually like.
Satay
I guess this one taste about the same as the ones in the States, we just order it because we like the dish.
Green Curry Chicken in Coconut Sauce
While green curry is also available in every American Thai restaurants, the American version tends to include alot of ingredients such as red pepper, greeen pepper, yellow pepper, bamboo shoots, water crest,… The Taiwanese version is "simpler", just the green curry and meat.
Mo Mo Cha Cha (Combo in Coconut Milk with Crushed Ice)
The name of this dessert is funny and easy to remember. It's a good icy dessert to cool down those hot and spicy thai food!
Lastly, want to take a guess on what you won't find in a Taiwanese Thai restaurant??
PAD THAI!!!
I don't know why. How could this classic dish that's in every American Thai restaurant be missing?? I'm pretty sure it is a real Thai dish too. Either it isn't popular with Taiwanese tongue or it has yet to be introduced.

嘿嘿~ 因為台灣有美國吃不到的"台式泰國菜" 呀!
比方說… 月亮蝦餅就是只有台灣吃的到呦!
怎麼可能!?!!?
我跟oc爸講的時候oc爸完全不相信
"月亮蝦餅不是每家泰國菜都有?!?!"
那天我們去瓦城oc爸還把服務生招來說
"我女兒說月亮蝦餅不是真的泰國菜, 是真的嗎?"
那個服務生嚇傻了….
想說我們是不是要申訴他們賣的泰國菜不道地
我後來還上網找了資料證明給oc爸看

另外也很台的一道泰菜是"明蝦冬粉" (或螃蟹冬粉)
這是我最愛, 也是去瓦城一定要點的
因為美國吃不到!!!!
這道菜我就找不到證據的台灣人發明的了
但因為台菜跟廣東菜裡也有這一道 (少了泰式香料)
所以我滿確定也是台式泰菜
